Illinois asks more of a gun buyer than almost any other state, and a Chicago buyer deals with three layers of rules at once. You need a Firearm Owner's Identification card from the Illinois State Police before you can acquire a firearm or even a box of ammunition. Your dealer has to hold the gun for at least 72 hours after the sale is applied for. On top of that, the 2023 Protect Illinois Communities Act limits what may be sold here, and Cook County enforces an ordinance of its own. We screen every Illinois order against those rules so nothing arrives at a dealer that cannot be handed over.
